Here lies the essence of candy in all its whirly glory and sugary madness; candy that can launch a million stories wrapped up in clear cellophane.

Susan says, “Here is an eye full of candy. A shocking candy display. Can you hear the begging, wheeling and tears and the sound of parents opening their wallet.  Because here we are in candy heaven. Bright, eye-popping colors, swirling pinks, tiny towers of yellow, blue and orange climbing to the sky. The cloying smell of sugar heavy in the air. Small, big and biggest. This is a story of the perfect seduction. This is the story of the fraught relations between parents, their children and candy. This is a story of marketing to your target. This is the story of childhood bliss and childhood tummy aches. Is that a root beer barrel on the far right? Well, if it didn’t turn out to be my story, too!”

Lucia say, “I was photographing shapes and colors, yet all around me in the candy shop were scenes nicely described by Susan. And she wasn’t even there at the time. I guess a wall of candy brings up the same stories whether you’re actually there to experience them or simply reminded of a sugary atmosphere. I think I can safely say this is an example of a picture being worth a thousand words and creating stories of all kinds.”
