Here is an unusual sports photograph from Lucia. Let’s see what stories we can attach to it.

Susan says, “I know that Portland takes its soccer teams very seriously. More than twice as many people show up for our Thornes’ games as in any other U.S. city. And here is a photo of our stadium very, very empty. Has this guy come incredibly early to get ready to cheer on his team? Talk about anticipation and loyalty! This photo shows both. Or maybe he came here to get away from it all. Nothing like showing up to a soccer match many hours early to have a stadium all to yourself. I wonder what it feels like to be alone in a space meant for thousands. All alone in a vast empty space. It certainly gives new meaning to Greta Garbo’s immortalizing line, ‘I want to be alone.’ This photo raises a lot of questions. What’s up with this guy anyway?”

Lucia says, “Talk about a negative space. Does it get much better than an empty stadium? A lonely figure in a large frame is one of my favorite scenes to photograph. It usually evokes contemplation for me. This photo is no different. Whether this fellow is anticipating the game, as Susan said, or just having a quiet moment, this photo can be used to depict either.”

So what does this photo do for you and your presentation. I think that there must be other ideas that this brings to your mind. Please let us know what you’ve found.
