Why aren’t we all kids at heart?

Susan says, “I know there are people who wouldn’t be caught dead in this situation. It is just too silly, too undignified, too pointless, too beneath them. Maybe some very cool people would do it for the sake of their kids. (What a great excuse to have a bit of poorly-disguised fun.) But these folks are fine with it for exactly what it is: a silly, pointless, undignified ride on the top of a little toy train. Summertime is the season for doing silly things that are not financially rewarding or self-improving; like walking on the beach, flying a kite, picking flowers, riding around in circles on a toy train. As the summer comes to an end I hope you had time to waste on something as silly as this.”

Lucia says, “When I saw this scene, I had to chuckle. And then I wondered what compelled these people to ride a toy train. It just seemed so, well, silly. I think it takes a certain amount of courage to be frivolous and even undignified. But as Susan has pointed out, doing pointless things do have their rewards. So yes, take a break from taking yourself too seriously and do something just for the fun of it. Give yourself the permission to be a kid.”
