For the next three blogs, we will contemplate round things and how they can be used in stories, design and illustrations for discussions of abstract ideas. Here we go: story.

Susan says, “What story can be told about these eight colorful soccer balls?  This story is surely about the moment before, about waiting for the beginning. What might happen? What could happen? Who will come? Balls are not usually seen at rest, especially not soccer balls. But here is a brief moment of stasis, equilibrium, inactivity. The future is next and this is a story that anticipates it.”

Lucia says, “At first glance, this looks like soccer balls lying around, randomly left on a field. Look again. Isn’t this photo full of tension awaiting the next move? Yes, all is anticipation. But where is everyone? Where are the kids? Where are the coaches? Right now it doesn’t matter where they are. Soon they’ll be practicing around this set up – dribbling soccer balls between the markers and around the cone. This scene will be full of activity. Right now we see the calm before the storm.”
