“Heigh-ho, the derry-o. The cheese stands alone.”
As the song says, the farmer gets a wife. The dog gets the cat. But the cheese? The cheese stands alone. Just like this beautiful striped tulip all alone and holding its head high in a sea of purple. Standing alone does have its advantages. No need to share the limelight. No one can interfere. This tulip has the stage to itself. Not one of those look-a-likes could take the stage away.
When you stand up to give a presentation, you do stand alone, of course. Of all those in the field, you’ve elected to stand up and have your say. It does set you apart. You are different from those around you. You look different to them and to yourself.
It might give you a little boost of courage to think of yourself as the one who is different and maybe just a little bit more beautiful than the rest.

P.S. This is Lucia’s 5th photograph in her series of a daily photograph for one year. She’s fully committed to tulips for a while as they are in riotous bloom here in the Northwest. Maybe rhododendrons are next. Or lilacs?
