Illuminating an abstract idea isn’t always easy. Here is an interesting approach to telling the story of trust.

Storytelling with a photo of an unattended fruit stand with instructions on how to pay for products.

Susan says, “This is a photo that tells a complex story in the most simple way. It tackles an aspect of the tangled world of our human relationships. In these modern times our trust in each other seems to be disappearing. Today many ways, with more to come, exist to deal with the prevention of our criminal tendencies that demonstrate institution’s growing lack of trust in their customers. And yet here, in this little shop crammed with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise available to anyone whether they pay or not. A simple hand-written sign instructs how to pay should they choose to do so. No surveillance camera is checking to see the payment is made. Not a single threat is made. All that is done by way of encouragement to pay up is a hand-drawn smiley face. Once again Lucia has found a way to tell a story about an abstract idea without any fuss. So good.”

Simple Storytelling Photos Can Grab You

Close up of locked cash box "Money Here $'.Lucia says, “There is something moving about this scene. This simple sign sets up an honor system that appeals to decency in people. But be assured this in not a story of naivetè. People are instructed to ‘leave the money in the green box’. That box has a lock on it. Let’s zoom in it and take a look.

It’s also a story about economy. By leaving the fruit stand unattended, farmers can put their resources toward their new crop. I’m sure they know that there will be people who will rip them off. They must feel that that percentage will be low enough to make it worth it to keep their stand open, while preparing for the new season.

I have to admit this is not a great photo, but it sure tells a story of trust from many angles.”
