Here, as usual, Susan and Lucia find two very different stories in a photo … Read our stories below the photo and then tell us what you’ve found.
Lucia says: “This is a story about perspective. The couple’s view is from their vantage point on the dock in the river. They might be looking at the sunset or simply the scene across the river. The reeds on the left side of the frame make one aware of my vantage point as a photographer. From this viewpoint I saw the whole setting. Now the perspective of the photo is about the people sitting on a narrow dock in a wide river.”
Susan says: “This photo talks to me about storytelling. Here are two guys fishing on a sandbar in a river. (You can see the fishing pole lying next to guy on the right.) one fisherman is in the midst of his story, gesturing as he fleshes out his story. His companion seems very engaged as he looks over at the story teller. The soft purple light adds a pensive, reflective feel to the photo, giving this shared moment more power and poignancy. Moments like these, where physical activity or work is far from pressing, seem to bring out the story teller in us. That’s why fishing is so popular, isn’t it?”
Tell us what you think, or how you might use this photo in a presentation.
