Lucia says: “I assume the story behind this sign is one of hours and hours of painstaking deliberations about design, color, and font. I envision dedicated people putting their energy toward creating the best representation the St. Johns Pub that they can imagine. I’m sure they even worried about what surface to use and where to place the sign. Then one day someone came along and in a mindless display of narcissism, plastered their own brand (graffiti) on the well thought out sign.”
Susan says: “Jeez, Lucia and I agree completely. What can I say to disagree? I could make a feeble argument that tagging is a response to the indifference and isolation of the modern world. Go ahead and put your mark on an uncaring world. I could argue that some graffiti is art, but certainly not this particular example. I suppose I could say that the handwritten tag is eye-catchingly human and stands out from the industrial approach of the pub sign. I could say all that, but I won’t. To the tagger: boo, hiss. You are a blight on the urban landscape.”
Your idea? Does graffiti make you angry or are you a secret tagger yourself. Come on, confess and tell us how wrong we are…
