We are passing through the darkest days of the year and Lucia captured the light.
Susan says, “I love Lucia’s photo of the amazing Zoo Lights, an annual holiday tradition here in Portland. What a fine and detailed depiction of a seascape complete with sea lions, seagulls and sailboats. I attempt no lesson today, just happy that there are people willing to go the extra mile to give us all joy.”
Lucia says, “Imagine my surprise when I turned a corner at ‘zoo lights’ and saw this giant summer scene in the dead of winter. I watched people walk by this mosaic of lights as its glow reflected off of their faces and they delighted in the picture. I wasn’t quite sure how to capture the display because I felt that a photo simply of the scene would be just that, ‘a picture of a picture’. Then I noticed the silhouettes in the corner adding a new dimension to the scene and I knew I had the composition I wanted.”
