This photo is hugely evocative for me. It brings powerful emotions to the surface.
Susan says: “This photo was taken at historic Fort Vancouver, Washington, during an evening called Campfires and Candlelight. My nostalgia for a simpler place and time simply overflowed. As the sun set, the only light came from candles and campfires. The darkness at the edge of light was black and profound. Even though there were many people present, most spoke in a whisper. Rooms were furnished with handmade pieces, like these gleaming copper bowls. For me and perhaps for you, this photo connects me to the past, a quieter time and a slower time.
Lucia says: “As a photographer, I was drawn to the monochromatic scene created by the candlelight. This was prevalent throughout the Campfires and Candlelight Event. Even the outdoor settings, at sunset before the profound darkness Susan mentioned, created a lighting that evoked old photographs.”
