Photos of dogs, especially puppies, rule the internet. Here’s one that works especially hard to bring ideas to life.
Susan says, “There is something in this little dog’s posture and intensity that says feisty and vigilant. If there was ever a dog to watch your back, this is he. While his owner is looking rather distracted and unfocussed, mr. dog is completely together and intense in this moment. Although he is little (maybe a tenth the size of his owner), he doesn’t look like he’d be one to give up if it came to that. I can almost hear him say, ‘Come on. Try me!’ This photo could support a discussion about points of view, perspective, relationships, even courage and indomitability.”
Lucia says, “The thing that comes to my mind is companionship. There two seem very comfortable with each other. I like the way the dog and human are looking in different directions, but are still very connected. To me, each creature is taking in its surroundings while still aware of the other by its side.”
What do you think? How could you use this photograph to illustrate an abstract idea, to make concrete a concept in the mind’s eye?
