Of course the most noticeable feature in this photo is the stroke of shimmering sunlight on the water through the bare shrubs. But there is so much more to this simple winter setting. Although quasi-monochromatic, subtle shifts of color in the water add depth to the scene. The vertical lines created by the branches in the foreground balance out the horizontal lines in the water. And back to the sparkling sunlight I mentioned earlier – it and the ripples of water give the whole scene a sense of movement.
