While walking along the beach, I spotted this gull standing on the sand. “Oh, nice,” I thought, “if only the bird were closer to the water.” I waited a second, hoping the bird would move toward the water’s edge or fly off, so I could capture an interesting shot. But he stayed still. Then I realized I had an opportunity to create a minimalist photo. Mind you, all of this went through my mind in a matter of seconds. I like this result much more that what I originally imagined. Now, we see a small subject in a large frame, which is enhanced by the wedge of water on the right pointing to the gull.
