The dramatic lighting on this decaying tree stump caught my eye, as I walked among giant redwoods in Northern California. I like the way the streaks light enhance the many shades of green moss and brown wood. The best part, for me, is the fern at the top growing out of the decay. The dappled light adds a sense of motion making the fern look as if it were a bird preparing for flight.
