The tiny, star-shaped pockets of pollen caught my attention as I walked by this sunflower. So, I was going to move in for an extreme close-up of the specks. Instead, I decided on a wider frame to include the yellow petals. I thought the scene needed the yellow of the petals to help the specks stand out from the brown of the stamen. I’m glad with my decision because the petals add warmth to the photo. There’s a reason these flowers are named for the sun. Don’t you think?
