So many concepts are illustrated in this photograph that it is a nearly perfect lesson in design.

Susan says, “Look carefully at Lucia’s wonderful photograph of the Oneonta Gorge waterfall just east of Portland and see which of the many elements of design it contains. I see: line, shape, color, contrast, balance, motion, texture, repetition:  the complex texture of the moss, the organically curved line that shapes the edges of the rock contrasted to the straight vertical line of the waterfall, the horizontal balance between water and rock, the motion of the falling water, the color contrast between the ice blue water and the warm green moss, the shafts of sunshine that add perspective and depth. All these elements bring a remarkable richness to this photo. Learn from this photo or just by looking out your back door, how the many elements of design can enrich your presentation.”
