From a pile of discarded wood comes this photo I have loved for a long time.
Susan says, “It is in part its simplicity. And in part the subtle play of color. This image contains everything: parallel lines, curved lines, diagonal lines, triangles, parallelograms, rectangles. Everything is perfectly balanced by the arcing red curve. The eye is kept busy exploring all the various shapes the photo contains, never bored, never confused or overloaded by too much disconnected visual information. The use of various tones and shades of red is also delightful. A little brown sneaks in but doesn’t detract from or conflict with the large swath of pink. Simplicity is bliss.”
Lucia says’ “Nicely said, Susan. You captured what compelled me to make this photo. When I saw the shapes, lines, and colors I got that thrill that comes with finding a photographic scene. We can also look at this not as discarded elements, but as a work in progress, as if the woodworker took a break and will be right back.”
