Colorful ink stamps are a wonderful example of the power of color to set a mood.
Susan says, “This photo of children’s stamps works even though you’d think that the vibrance of their colors would create an image of chaotic confusion. No doubt to keep children interested in using them, these stamps are supersaturated with color: Hottest Pink, Glowing Green, Violent Violet, Yelling Yellow, Bellowing Blue. And yet despite all the cries for attention here, the colors work together to create a unified image of singular exuberance and collective loudness. Not a single color backs down or gives way to any other. This image is pure color fun!”
Lucia says, “When looking at this scene as a whole, I feel the jumble of colors on the complementary blue background make an appealing haphazard mix. Of course, I was attracted to these bright colors. But it was the smudges on the handles created by many small ink-stained hands that ultimately compelled me to make this photo. This detail made the ‘big picture’ even more satisfying.”
What say you? Does this photo speak to you of happiness and exuberance or is it just an annoying jumble of warring colors.
