Look at this superb example of industrial design for a lesson in seeing ideas.
Susan says, “Everything about this front grill work says speed and power. The designers have taken no short cuts to proclaim the speed delivered by the v-8 horsepower under this midnight blue hood. The vertical, aerodynamic grill, the teardrop headlamps, the shape of the cutouts supporting the rearview mirrors, the abundance of gleaming chrome, all says ‘lookout, I am coming at you!’ This isn’t subtle, but it manages to steer clear of being garish by sticking to one task. There is nothing extraneous. Nothing merely decorative. Everything here says power and speed. We can all see this idea.”
Lucia says, “We don’t need to see the whole car to know this is the height of elegance. This is a close up of a car from days gone by when style was king. This may speak to power, as Susan said, but it’s also a statement about status. It says. ‘look at me, look how successful I am’. The ideas I see here are of power, panache, and prestige. What does your mind see?”
