This photograph evokes a powerful emotional response. Let’s see why.

Susan says, “I am certain that there are many possible responses to this photograph. Here are mine (possibly caused by our recent Halloween holiday). I see decay, neglect and despair in this photograph. The black and white palette and high contrast darkens the mood. The spiked plants and the pointed fence tops bespeak danger. Is something being kept in or are we being kept out. The rough and gritty texture of the surface and the darkened area where are the vertical lines lead isn’t promising. Miss Havisham would find a dark and decaying connection here, and likely Stephen King would find this a place for a pleasant stroll. Think about evoking a mood with your photographs and you just might have some interesting graphics for your presentations. As an aside, I know where Lucia took this photo and there is nothing sinister about this spot. She created the mood by seeing the potential in this place and enhancing it afterwards in Lightroom.”

Lucia says, “I was going only for texture, lines, and high contrast in this photo. But, wow, I didn’t expect what it conjured up for Susan. Now I’m wondering what comes up for you. Add a comment and tell us if this photo does anything for you?”
