Last weekend my friends and I went to, what we call, the 1000 acre dog park. It was a bonus day. The sun was shining, not too cold, lots of dogs. It was fabulous.
Winter can offer some beautiful landscapes of subtle colors and muted tones. The sky puts on a show with black clouds, puffy clouds and wispy ones, too. But I had been paying attention to the dogs playing in the water and chasing each other, until I finally looked up to see what nature had in store down the river. My reaction? ‘Oh my’. Sometimes, I think, we forget the beauty that winter can offer. Maybe there are no bright colors, but there’s a lot to see if you just look.
Light Makes the Scene
The strongest element in this photo is the light. The winter sun sitting low on the horizon has a warm glow and casts long shadows. I do have another photo of this scene in which I zoomed in to capture the patch of blue, big black clouds, and bare trees. The light was stunning. That was very pleasing. But I chose to show you this photo, which includes the activities of the dogs with their humans. Sure the close up is lovely, but this photo is more fun. Don’t you think?
