Last Foto Friday I talked about being in the right place at the right time to capture that fleeting instant that’s gone in a flash. Today I want to talk about the rewards of patience and waiting for the right moment.

Silhouette of duck surrounded by reflected colors on water.

Waiting for it.

There were ducks and geese everywhere, swimming and flying in and out of this scene. Even the colors were slowly changing as the afternoon sunlight moved across the water. I thought I would wait until there were no birds in the frame to create an abstract of the reflections. Then I changed my mind and decided that a bird in the frame would make it more interesting. When a lone duck floated into the frame, I saw my chance. I waited until the duck was in the brightest part of the reflected colors to create a silhouette. In the end, I was pleased with the result. My patience had paid off. The resulting photo was more than I expected. To me, it looks like an impressionist painting. Does it to you?
