Every city has quiet spots where few people bustle through on their way from one place to another. Portland has many, and one of the quietest is the Chinese Garden.
As you walk through the garden, you forget that there is a teeming, busy city on the other side of the walls. It’s peaceful here. People become reflective upon entering. It’s almost as if everyone can sense the meditative mood of the place. I find that spending time here is always refreshing.
Soaking up the Quiet
This Chinese Garden is beautiful. There’s a lot of eye-candy to take in. Notice the circular passageway and the pebbled designs on the ground. Photographers come to create compelling photos, artists come to sketch, but most people come to soak up the quiet, to sit and look and listen. Notice the young woman sitting there – just sitting there. (Not an electronic device in site.) I urge you to look for quiet places in your town and take advantage of their rejuvenating powers. You’ll be surprised by how much better it will make you feel.
