On an outing to a wetlands near Portland, with my friend Simon Mrkusic, I saw quite a bit of wildlife, including many species of birds and turtles. At one point during our excursion, we quietly stood still watching an osprey soaring overhead. I was taken in by the sight of the single magnificent bird against a blue sky awash with thin white clouds. I pointed my camera straight up and captured this scene. This fulfills a couple of my favorite photographic techniques. Keeping it simple with minimalism. And negative space with one focal point in a large empty space. Ultimately, it’s a simple photo of a majestic osprey.
