There has been an explosion of tulips in Portland this year. Spring has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere and the colors are astounding. I thought I’d give you a peek at what is growing in my yard. And this is just a glimpse of the riot of colors the tulips around town have produced.

Complementary Colors?

Of course, this photo has some of my favorite elements. It’s simple and it has a lot of negative space. The smears of green and black in the blurry background make the tulip stand out. Now, I did a little bit of research on complementary colors and found that orange and green do not fit this category. Does that mean these colors clash? Maybe it’s the reason the orange tulip stands out from the green background. What do you think?
