It was the designer’s choice of pink that made this a fantastical magic train ride.
Susan says, “Here comes the magical, mystery tour. A shocking pink streetcar filled with passengers and musicians flying through dappled sun light. A summer day dream. Daring design ideas like a florescent pink streetcar can bring mundane subjects bursting into life. I would like to have heard the Doppler Shift as this train passed – the compressed sound waves from wheels on rails accompanied by bass and sax. Try something outrageous just once and see if you have a magical, mystery on your hands.”
Lucia says, “It was a magical evening – the Portland Streetcar Music Fest. Each train carried a different music group – spanning a wide spectrum of musical styles from jazz to folk to opera and more. Who would have thought a series of streetcars could create a musical venue? I guess it was pretty ‘outrageous’ from the beginning. My friend and I hopped on and off trains to hear as many groups as we could. We were in constant motion – during the train rides, as well as when we went from one streetcar to the next. This photo of the pink train shows the event in a nutshell. The reflections, the motion blur, the musicians, the people enjoying the music while riding are all in the frame. Susan wasn’t at the music fest, but she was able to get a sense of the magical feeling from this photo. And, yes, the pink train does stand out from the ordinary to accentuate that this was an extraordinary experience. This goes to show that you should choose photos for your presentation carefully. They can be a delightful addition to your presentation, as well as help you communicate abstract ideas to your audience.”
